On April 8th, Qiu Caiming, Dean of the School of Electronic Information and Communications (EIC), together with the delegation from EIC, including Liu Qiong, Liao Zhenyu and Mi Tiebin, Wang Hongsheng, Executive Vice-President of the Research Institute of HUST in Shenzhen, and Professor Xie Qingguo from the School of Life Science and Technology of HUST carried out academic exchange in Shenzhen Bay Laboratory. Leaders from the laboratory, including Wu Yundong, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Executive Vice-Director, Hu Xiaojun, Secretary of the Laboratory Party Committee, and Tu Huan, Vice-Director, attended the symposium.
Wang Hongsheng, Qiu Caiming and the delegation first visited the exhibition hall of the laboratory. After learning the overall planning, the operation mode, the team construction as well as the research progress of the laboratory, the delegation held an in-depth discussion on the research direction, the adoption of research achievements and the construction of research teams of the laboratory.
Then, Professor Qiu Caiming and Professor Xie Qingguo respectively delivered an academic report themed on “Research on Problems in Intelligent Medicine” and “All Data PET- Origin, Status and Future”. The two sides exchanged views on some technological issues related to “intelligent medicine” and “digital PET”.
At the meeting, Professor Qiu Caiming and Professor Xie Qingguo elaborated their opinions and plans based on the integration of the core technologies possessed by their teams and the advantages of the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory. Leaders from the laboratory highly recognized the academic and research strength of HUST and the significant contributions made by the two professors in the field of life science and medicine.
At the meeting, the leaders from the laboratory expressed that Shenzhen Bay Laboratory looks forward to cooperating with Professor Qiu Caiming’s and Professor Xie Qingguo’s teams. In the future, the two sides will further discuss the research development positioning and the budget plan of Xie Guoqing’s team. An in-depth discussion was also held on how to utilize Professor Qiu Caiming’s “Medical Big Data” to help advance the research of Institute of Neurological Disease of the laboratory. An “Intelligent Medical” Associate Laboratory is planned to be established so as to search for the cure for some neurological diseases, such as Alzheimer disease and autism.
According to Wang Hongsheng, Research Institute of HUST in Shenzhen has taken an active part in fulfilling the mission of HUST to help the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area by encouraging professors’ teams of the school to participate in the construction of national key laboratories and co-establishing research platforms with outstanding research institutes.
