The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) has conducted a comprehensive and systematic ranking of overall performances of 719 international collaboration bases of science and technology, nationwide. The China International Joint Research Center of Green Communications and Networking at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) was awarded the grade of excellence. The center, supported by the School of Electronic Information and Communications (EIC) at HUST, is the only international collaboration base for science and technology awarded the grade of excellence in the field of information and communications, nationwide.
The center, approved as a state international collaboration base by the Ministry of Science and Technology in October 2015, aims to reduce the energy consumption of the new generation broadband mobile communication system. It has established long-term, stable, extensive and mutually beneficial cooperation with a number of well-known universities and research institutes in the UK, Germany, France, the U.S., and Australia - among other countries. Led by Professor Ge Xiaohu, director of the center, it has made great achievements in the construction of international technology cooperative networks, academic exchange and talent training. The center has made significant contributions to helping relevant innovation subjects better utilize international science and technology resources. It has also advanced the building of international technology cooperation channels for relevant departments. It not only promotes the development of regional economies and industries, but also helps China play an increasingly important role in the global filed of information and communications relating to high energy efficiency.
Members of the center have long engaged in research on green communications and networking. It has provided strong support for the academic discipline development and discipline ranking of EIC.
In recent years, members of the center have published over 220 high-level papers in various fields. These fields include: stochastic geometry and queuing theory; game theory; networking management and resource allocation; and optimization of network performance. Of these, 136 papers have been published in international journals. Relevant scholars have also hosted or participated in six national key / major projects in the field of green communications and networking and the next generation mobile communication system. Also, five international collaboration projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology; three projects of the Seventh Framework Program (FP7) of the European Union; and two projects of the Horizon 2020 Program. The center has been granted the research funding of more than 30 million CNY. The research team was awarded the second prize in the Natural Science Award of Hubei Province, and the second prize of the Science and Technology Award of the China Institute of Communications. Papers composed by the team have also won the award of the IEEE Communications Society for best paper - the only IET Networks best paper award in 2017- and the best paper award of a number of international conferences. These include: IEEE Globecom 2010; IEEE IWCMC 2015; European Wireless Conference 2016; IEEE WPMC 2016; and IEEE/CIC ICCC 2017.
