On the afternoon of November 4, Wang Bin returned to EIC, who is the alumni of undergraduate class of 1988 and graduate class of 1991, Senior Vice-president of Guangdong South New Media Corporation and Director of the Industry Research Institute of the corporation. Qiu Caiming, Dean of EIC, Chen Shiying, Vice-secretary of the school party committee, and Yang You, assistant to the school dean, attended the meeting.
Wang Bin was first showed around in the former building of Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics to which EIC will move. Then, he was showed the great progress and achievements that EIC has made in recent years, and visited some laboratories, including multimedia communication lab and multimedia technology lab. After the visit, Wang Bin spoke highly of the achievements and application of the technology of interactive multimedia in collection, processing, coding, transmission and interactive applications. He also briefly introduced Guangdong South New Media Corporation and its industrial layout, and discussed some issues with the students and teachers attending the meeting, including the industry-school-research cooperative training, the scientific research needs in the field of radio and television, the national planing and layout in the field of new media.
Qiu Caiming and Chen Shiying extended their warm welcome to Wang Bin. Qiu Caiming introduced not only the major achievements made by the school in the “Double First-class” construction and the connotation development, but also the plans in terms of discipline construction, talent attraction and training, and scientific research during the “14th Five-year” period. EIC is preparing to set up EIC alumni association, aiming to gather more power of EIC alumni so as to contribute to the further development of EIC.
It has been 30 years since his graduation, and Wang Bin recalled his experience at EIC. He expressed his gratitude to EIC for its cultivation, and hoped to repay the school by co-conducting scientific projects with EIC and supporting its talent training. Wang Bin pointed out that with long history and good tradition, EIC has cultivated a large number of top talents. He believed that under the guide of the strategies proposed in the new era, EIC will embrace a brighter future.
