Recently, the System of the Overall View of HUST Library designed by three undergraduate students of EIC, Dong Yuanhao, Li Chengfeng and Yao Yuanfan, under the instruction of Associate Professor Liu Qiong and Professor Yang You goes live. The system is able to help freshmen learn all aspects of the library and facilitate the daily operation of the library. It also serves the needs of regular epidemic prevention and control in HUST.
The system, with two entrances - the entrance for freshmen and the entrance for normal visitors, provides the 360-degree view of the library. With the help of photos, words and videos, the system can show the readers around the library online. Readers can visit all floors and all functional areas of the library online via mobile phones or computers. Readers can log in the official website of HUST library, and click “Overview ” and then “Virtual Tour of Library” to sign in the system.
The help and support from EIC and the HUST library is indispensable for the success of the system. Teachers and students in the research team have discussed the development needs with the library staff for many times to formulate the development plan and carried out several rounds of data collection on Friday afternoons when the library closed. Finally, the system well recognized by the library, with exquisite scenes, complete functions and systematic interaction design, was launched online successfully before the new semester begins.
The system is a project of the course named Multimedia Information Processing, which is in the talent training program of Electronic Information Engineering. Following the innovative ideas of Emerging Engineering Education, teachers continuously introduce the frontier technologies in the field of multimedia as well as their own research results to the class, encourage students to pay close attention to the needs in daily life, and design many projects which can train students to solve practical problems with the knowledge they have learned in the class.
Incorporating the innovative ideas of Emerging Engineering Education into the classes, EIC will stay committed to training innovative talents who not only have advanced knowledge but also are good at solving practical problems.
