Qiu Caiming first introduced EIC in terms of the history, the overall strength, the discipline construction, the talent training, the great technological achievements and outstanding alumni of the school. Then, he introduced the three undergraduate programs of EIC, namely Electronic Information Engineering, Communications Engineering and Electromagnetic Field and Wireless Technology, and showed students how these three programs can serve national and social needs. In order to enable students to have deeper understanding of the programs, he showed the history of the development of Electromagnetics and shared the stories of great physicists with students.

Qiu Caiming told the students to try their best to have good command of basic science by sharing the story of Zhang Xiaolong, the outstanding alumni of Electromagnetic Field and Wireless Technology of class 1987, and his own experience. He encouraged the students not only to make good use of the technological innovative platforms provided by EIC, but also to broaden their research horizon by absorbing multidisciplinary knowledge as mush as they can and to go to laboratories in advance. He pointed out that nowadays, what builds a country is “brain” instead of “muscle”. Therefore, the students of EIC should stay committed to serving the needs and strategies of China.

The first lesson given by Qiu Caiming lasted for more than three hours, and students all expressed that they have benefited a lot from this lesson. One student said that as a student of EIC, he will study hard and devote himself to solving bottleneck problems so as to make his own contributions to the development of China.
