On December 4, China Society of Image and Graphics released the list of newly elected fellows. Professor Zhu Guangxi from the School of Electronic Information and Communications of HUST is elected as the CSIG Fellow.
The title of CSIG Fellow is the top honor for the members of CSIG, which is awarded to the members who have made outstanding contributions to CSIG and in the field of graphics. CSIG started its nomination process in June, 2o21, and 17 scholars are elected as the CSIG Fellow of 2021.
Professor Zhu Guangxi’s research interest is in broadband mobile communication system, digital video coding, transmission and application, key technologies and applications of video processing and recognition in intelligent transportation. He has hosted several national major projects.
Professor Zhu Guangxi was the director of the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering (the former EIC). He specialized in image processing and multimedia communications and has made numerous significant achievements, who is influential in the field of image and video communications, including in academic research, technology and products research & development, technology application and talent training. He proposed a new system for image and video acquisition and coding, a joint coding system of signal source and channel for wireless multimedia, a high-quality loop filter method for efficient video coding and decoding, and a fusion emergency video communication system for extreme communication conditions. The achievements made by him won the first prize of the contribution to China innovative standards, the award for the ten major inventions in the information industry and the first prize of the scientific and technological inventions of Hubei Province.
Professor Zhu Guangxi’s team established the world’s first test system integrating broadband wireless mobile communication and Internet in Wuhan, realizing the accurate broadcasting and high QoS media experience of high bandwidth multimedia in the public network wireless channels. In the later 20 years, this technology has been applied to B3G (4G), 5g and even 6G, as well as to the current F5G / F6G research, providing strong support for the development and industrialization of high QoS multimedia communication technology in China's wireless public network system, and the industrialization of the integration of digital media oriented-mobile communication and Internet and optical fiber access. He co-established CSIG Professional Committee on Image and Video Processing and Communications and set up National Anti-counterfeit Engineering Research Center (HUST), National Engineering Laboratory for Next Generation Internet Access System (HUST), National Research Center for Broadband Mobile Communication Core Network Engineering Technology (Huawei) and National Key Laboratory for Mobile Communications Access Technology. He has published more than 200 papers in important journals and conferences in China and abroad, boasts over 40 authorized patents of inventions, and submitted over 60 mobile communications standards.
