In the fifth National FPGA Innovative Design Competition for College Students held in late November, 2021, the undergraduate team and postgraduate team from EIC respectively won the first prize and the second prize, whose instructor is Associate Professor Li Yuzhou from EIC.
The project "Cross-media Communication System Based on Small-sized Rotating Permanent Magnet Mechanical Antennas” won the national first prize. The three team members, Jin Diao, Wang Li and Xiong Qilong, are all undergraduate students of the class 2019 of EIC. They have been working on the research on the basic theory and technologies of mechanical antennas since 2019. They have solved three key technologies, efficient loading of information, spatial structure design of permanent magnet and magnetometer with high sensitivity. After nearly one-year research, they have successfully worked out a cross-media communication prototype verification system based on small-sized rotating permanent magnet mechanical antennas. The system works at extremely low frequency, and the antenna size is only about centimeters long. At present, it has realized communication in air and cross-media.
The project "Software Definable Broadband Water Acoustic OFDM Communication System" won the national second prize. The team consists of two postgraduate students, Huang Yunlong and Wang Sixiang, and one undergraduate student, Liu Keli. From theory research to the development of prototype verification platform, from experiments in indoor water tanks to experiments in lakes, the team has overcome many difficulties during the past two years. The system functions have gradually improved after extensive experiments. At present, main communication and signal processing algorithms / parameters can be defined by software, including center frequency, available bandwidth, transmission gain, coding mode, coding rate, modulation order and number of carriers. The real-time acquisition, transmission, reception and display of text, voice, image, video and other data can be realized.
The fifth National FPGA Innovative Design Competition for College Students began in November, 2021, which is a top competition in the field of FPGA in China. A total of 1296 teams from universities across China participated in the competition like Tsinghua University, Fudan University and Harbin Institute of Technology. In the final, 22 projects are awarded the first prize, 45 projects the second prize, and 76 projects the third prize.
